The Duke's removal from the last vestiges of monarchical duties has not only altered his path - it's sending ripples through his family too.

Sarah Ferguson's Title Change

His ex-wife has now lost her duchess title and will simply be known as Sarah Ferguson.

For Sarah, sixty-six, the transition will be the most apparent.

Throughout this period, she has maintained the honorary royal post-marital designation Sarah, York Duchess. Currently, she reverts to her maiden name of Ferguson.

"She has lost a certain prestige over this," said one royal commentator. "She definitely does use the title – including her Twitter bio is @TheDuchessSarah."

But the loss of her title may affect her much less than the scandal she's dealing with independently about her own connections to Jeffrey Epstein.

Recently, multiple organizations dropped her as patron after an email from 2011 revealed that she called Epstein her "greatest ally" and seemed to apologise for her public criticism of him.

Professional Endeavors and Philanthropy

Away from her philanthropy, Ferguson also has multiple commercial enterprises.

And these ventures, are more likely to be impacted by the Epstein controversy than any change in title, says one monarchy analyst.

But Ferguson has been a great survivor in monarchical networks. She's kept bouncing back.

"She is the ultimate survivor and master of reinvention," commented one royal author.

The Daughters

For the couple's two daughters, Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, thirty-five, there's no official alteration.

They will still be referred to as royal princesses, which they have been entitled to since their birth.

There is also no change to the line of succession.

The prince stays eighth position to the throne, followed by his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, in ninth and twelfth position respectively.

But in reality their standing are "distant" and will likely become even more remote as years pass.

Future Prospects

The princesses are also presently non-working royals, and while they occasionally take on roles – Princess Eugenie was recently announced as a mentor for the monarch's charity program – experts also suggest they "can't see a world" in which they would advance into official responsibilities.

"Regarding Beatrice and Eugenie go, I think there's an appreciation of the fact that this controversy doesn't involve them, and it's unjust for it to affect them directly in the separate paths they are building for themselves," explains one monarchy analyst.

"The princesses are particularly unlucky affected parties, they've had to endure quietly and have been dignified in their silence," adds another royal author.

Final Impact

Ultimately, there appears to be minimal uncertainty that the individual who will be most impacted by these developments will be Prince Andrew himself.

For someone who always liked the trappings of royalty, the pomp and the ceremony, the relinquishment of his honors is profoundly embarrassing.

So to not have these, on a personal level, will significantly count.
